Upon receiving his Masters Degree in Germanic Literature from the University of Washington in 1968, Victor Freund was hired by Centralia Community College to teach German. As Professor of Foreign Languages, he taught German and French, but during his early years in Centralia he also taught gymnastics, soccer, film studies and a variety of other subjects that were of interest to him. Vic was Director of Distance Learning, Director of the Teaching and Learning Center and served as Division Chairman of the Humanities for over a decade. He was very honored to receive the Exceptional Faculty Award at the college because teaching was immensely important and rewarding to him.
Vic remained on the faculty of the College until his death from cancer in 2005. He was sixty.
As Vic would have liked, a $500 scholarship to Centralia College will be made available every year to a student pursuing studies in foreign languages and working toward better international understanding.
