Quedlinburg Coat of Arms Quedlinburg

Quedlinburg, which lies along the Bode river just north of the Harz mountains, has numerous charming half-timbered houses, other fine old buildings, several nice churches and a castle, from which you will enjoy panoramic views of the city. Quedlinburg was the birthplace of the first German woman doctor, Dorothea Erxleben, the educator Johann Christoph Guts Muths and Carl Ritter, who is considered one of the founders of modern scientific geography along with Alexander von Humboldt. The birthplace of the poet Friedrich Gottlieb Klopstock, at the foot of the Schlossberg, today houses the Museum of Literature.

Because of Quedlinburgs rich cultural history and important sites, the old town of Quedlinburg, its castle mountain, and the collegiate church were placed under the protection of the UNESCO´s World Cultural Heritage list in December 1994.
