coat of arms for Gernrode Gernrode

A few miles south of Quedlinburg lies the little town of Gernrode, home of the former monastic church of St. Cyriacus. It was probably begun around 959 and is one of the finest churches of the Ottonian period. The present west end, main apse and crypt date from the early 12th century. The church was thoroughly restored between 1858 and 1872.
