

Gedern is a charming little town in Northern Hessen, in the Naturpark Hoher Vogelsberg. Since 1972 Gedern consists of 6 communities: Steinberg, Wenings, Nieder-, Mittel-, Ober-Seemen and Gedern. It has about 7600 inhabitants and is a nationally recognized spa [Luftkurort]. Gedern, first mentioned in a document of the Lorsch Monastary, received its city rights in 1356 from Emperor Karl IV. In 1535 the town was acquired by the aristrocratic line of Stolberg-Wernigerode.
My wife's ancestors come from here, so we spent a couple of days doing some genealogical research and were lucky enough to spend the nights in the recently renovated Schloß.
