Fulda, HessenThe old episcopal city of Fulda is beautifully located in the valley of the river Fulda, between the foothills of the Rhöhn and the Vogelsberg. The 18th century Prince-Bishops gave the city its Baroque look. The Dom, designed by Johann Dientzenhofer [1704-1712], contain the remains of St. Boniface, patron saint of Germany, in its crypt. Note at the base of the funerary monument, in the form of an altar, the 18th century alabaster low relief depicting Boniface, in his priestly vestments, raising his tombstone on Judgment Day. Boniface reliquaries are the most precious items in the cathedral treasure [Domschatz].
