Schloß LinderhofSchloß Linderhof (948m) was built deep in the forest in the Ammergau Alps 1874-78 for King Ludwig II of Bavaria. Inside the castle you will find a very impressive state bed chamber, a room of mirrors, painted cloth panels, statues and pastels of Louis XIV, Louis XV, Madame de Pompadour, Madame du Barry and others. Of particular note are the gardens and water features surrounding the castle. When I toured the castle as a youngster, I was particularly fascinated by the "Tischlein deck dich " feature, which allowed the King to be served an elegant meal "magically" like in the fairy tales.
