Breisach/Kaiserstuhl

Breisach, located at the foot of the Kaiserstuhl, is a charming town in SW Germany. We had visited there primarily because my father was born in Breisach, but we were pleasantly surprised to find a town with such a rich cultural and historical heritage. It also gave us a good excuse to explore the many vineyards of the Kaiserstuhl area. We especially liked the Weißherbst wines.

The St. Stephansmünster was built in the 14th century and contains a large high altar (1526) and frescoes by Martin Schongauer, who died in Breisach in 1491.
