St-Thégonnec, Bretagne

St-Thégonnec has one of the most complete parish closes in Brittany. When you enter through the triumphal archway, the ossuary is to the left and the calvary directly ahead. It was built in 1610 and illustrates the superior skills of Breton sculptors - especially considering that they worked primarily with the local granite. Calvaries provide unique lessons from the Bible, often with the characters dressed in mid 17th century garb [see also Guimiliau].
